Astrakhan has exceeded 100,000 rubs on the Martindale Abrasion Test, and conforms to British Standards for resisting Anti-Bacterial growth. The superior quality of the microfibers means that the material is stain-resistant, easily cleaned, and hard-wearing and is extremely soft to the touch. Astrakhan is waterproof and machine washable at 40º. Stains from food and drink can be removed easily with neutral water-based solvents. Grease/oil stains can be removed with a solution of 10% spirit and 90% water. Rub the stained area lightly, using circular movements, until the stain disappears. The fabric can be tumble-dried, or alternatively pat dry with a cloth, then brush lightly in the direction of the pile. Astrakhan should not be dry-cleaned. Do not use chemical solvents, bleaches, abrasives, synthetic detergents, wax polishes or aerosol sprays. The materials used are warranted by our suppliers as passing the appropriate tests as stipulated by these regulations. Tests show that Ambla containing ACTIFRESH is effective against the spread of MRSA, E Coli and other harmful bacteria on its surface. Amongst other benefits it resists the development of mould and mildew and helps to prevent musty or stale odours. Ambla is resistant to most mild acids, alkalis, drinks and household stains. Professional cleaning is recommended. I.e. water extraction method. After consultation with our supplier we have been advised that whilst this fabric is not designed to be washed, if washing is necessary then the fabric must only be washed on a cold synthetic wash, less than 30º and only a non biological washing powder should be used. Washing will affect the Crib 5 properties of the fabric which is the white back coating on the fabric. We do not recommend that this fabric is dry cleaned or tumble dried.
